‘…this poignant and disarming story is full of heart and its crescendo will give you tingles’ Attitude Magazine

‘Outstanding’ Irish Examiner

Sam has known his sister Jessica all his life. Tonight is the first time they’re going to meet.

Sam Waver has always been a loner: bullied, struggling at school, with parents who have very little time for him. The one person he has always been able to rely on is his beloved older sibling – but when they announce that they are transitioning, Sam’s life is thrown upside down. He’s convinced nothing will ever be the same again – but as Sam is about to discover, nothing is more constant than love.

A moving and heartfelt portrait of one family’s journey to acceptance, from a master storyteller.

‘A story with so much heart that the pages practically pulse. Both funny and moving… this is a must-read for all ages’ Irish Independent

My favourite character is Sam as he makes friends with the person who was bullying him. This book is fiction and I would recommend it as it is very inspiring.

This book is very meaningful. It is about someone who has a transgender sibling. It tells you what people have to go through. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in what is happening in life now.

My favourite character is Jessica/ Jason. I love the extract/blerb- it doesn’t make sense when you first read it but at the end it really does. The actual story isn’t an adventure it’s more of an emotional drama type story compared to what I usually read but it’s a really good story and I recommend it to people 10+. This is really good. I would definitely put it on your reading list or have a look in your library for it- p.s My brother’s name is Jessica has more than one cover.

I really liked this book because it helped me understand what my sister could've been thinking inside her head when I came out to her as transgender. I don't really like how Sam acts towards Jessica being trans. My favourite character is probably the aunt because I like how she gives Jessica a place where she can escape and respects her wishes to be called Jessica and use she/her pronouns. I also love how she's unpredictable and adventurous. i would recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand the family life of anyone who is transgender and the struggles it brings.

This was a very valid book for understanding people who are transgender. It shows the struggle of a Sam who is the brother of Jason who changes his gender and becomes Jessica. Their mum is going for prime minister although she doesn't make it out so. She and Dad are trying to be supportive but not understanding fully making Jason/Jessica feel pressured to leave the house. Basically things aren't going to well at home but with loads of emotions Sam is finding it hard to cope. Will they be able to have a fairly normal family or will they be forever doomed to be apart. Would recommend to anyone interested in people who are trans but don't fully understand what it's like for someone who is trans and the effect it can have on families.

Although it was quite a bit more advanced for me but I loved reading it and I like that they spread the word that people who are transgender should be treated like normal people and should not be disrespected because of that. This book was hard to put down and I read it several times. My favourite character was Sam Waver.
