The Peculiar Peggs of Riddling Woods
Samuel J. Halpin, Hannah Peck
This is the story of a sleepy town called Suds. A place where stories fill the air of children turning grey and disappearing without a trace…
Poppy and Erasmus are certain there’s something peculiar going on in Suds, and they’re determined to unravel its secrets. But when they discover the answers might lie in the dark and twisting woods, can they find the courage to creep inside and solve this riddling mystery?
‘A thrilling read…flavoured with fairytales, drizzled with a syrup of fear and sprinkled with heart.’ M.G. Leonard

I thought that this book is a real peculiar one. For a couple of chapters it was a little spooky, but over all is as a great book. MY thoughts on what I have read are that if I was put in Poppy and Erasmus's situation, I would a lot more creeped out than they were. My favourite character was Poppy because her determination to solve the mystery is inspiring. I would recommend this book. I would recommend it to a person who likes a mystery, magic and excitement.

This book is scary and fun at the same time, a fairy tale set in a small boring town called Suds. Polly goes on holiday to her Gran’s (Her father is an overly keen cyclist on a trail in another country) house in Suds. Every day they follow the same ‘old wives tale’ rules: hide all sugar, never wipe the window sills, bring the washing in from outside even if it is wet and other similar things. Polly is overcome with sadness after her Mother’s death, eleven months ago, but makes new friends in a mission to get rid of the Peggs.

This fiction book is a dark fairy tale based in a strange town called Suds. Poppy and her new friends want to find out what strange reasons are behind children going missing, loosing colour from their eyes and hair and becoming unable to speak. This is a dark book and would need to be read with a parent for children under 8 but recommended for 9+ as a general age for the book. I liked Misty best because she is funny and she is adventurous and sneaky. I also like Churchill the pig.
