This is my fifth re-readthrough of this book. It is very good. It is set during Christmas and starts in France, although it ends in Turkey. This is my summery. Max Moral's Great-Aunt Elodie calls to ask if one of the Moral Family could come to stay with her, Max is delighted when her parents say 'Yes'. But When the Heartbreak Diamond is stolen, Max is determined to find out the culprit. Max makes friends, enemies and finds out amazing things all aboard the night train from Paris to Istanbul.

I absolutely love this book! The main character is a girl called Maximillian (max for short) and she lives in Paris. When she wants to think she makes a hot chocolate and goes to the attic to write in her notebook One day she gets a phone call from her great aunt asking for somebody in the family to go and stay with her in Istanbul because she is ill. Nobody wants to go except for Max. Eventually her parents let her go, she travels with a nun on three different trains... A definite yes to recommending this book!

Join eleven year-old Max Morel on an exciting train journey across Europe! When Max's family (who live in Paris) receieve a telephone call from Great-Aunt Elodie in Istanbul, Max volunteers to go as the Christmas holidays are about to begin - and soon she finds herself travelling across Europe by train, accompanied by quirky nun Sister Marguerite. But the innocent (but still exciting!) trip soon turns into a thrilling adventure as a puzzling theft unravels around her - the priceless Heartbreak Diamond has been stolen! It's a race against time for Max... can she bring the jewel thief to justice before arriving in Turkey? I really loved the travel theme of this story as I am passionate about travel and, indeed, trains. I was especially excited to read about the sleeper services as I have always thought that spending a night on board a train would be amazing. Max travels on four trains altogether: the TGV Duplex, the Kálmán Imre, the Ister and the Bosfor. You'll have to read the book to find out the etymology behind these curious names! This book also entertains an interest in geography as Max visits one or two cities along the way, and it often mentions where she is during her journey! There are lots of unlikely twists in this story and as soon as you think that you're ahead of the author, you discover that you were wrong after all, and the story is now running along a different track altogether. It was interesting to know that the journey started in Paris; nice though it would have been for it to have started in the United Kingdom, setting it in different countries made this compelling and outstanding read even more unique and special! The story also explores a little about homesickness and wanderlust as Max experiences and learns how to cope with both overwhelming emotions. Please, Sylvia Bishop, write about more of Max Morel's adventures! I am curious to know where her travels will take her next... I would very highly recommend this unputdownable inspiring adventure to all children aged 8-9+, particularly those who have an interest in travel, trains, mystery and adventure to enjoy reading either aloud or in their head! There's a dash of humour in the book too. Enjoy Reading and All Aboard! By Y, aged 12

Young Max and Retired Police Commandant Marguerite are off on a journey across Europe to see Max’s Great-Aunt Elodie. The theft of the Heartbreak diamond is becoming increasingly popular and the thief is on their train. There are five suspects, Rupert, Celeste, Ester, Klaus and even Marguerite. But which one of them did it, and why? Read the book to find out.

I really enjoyed this book. I think it was perfect for my age group. I think that this book is best for ages 8-12 as it may scare younger readers or they may not be able to understand some of the language. This book is really, really good and is also educational, sometimes that puts children off but I really liked it. It helps with languages because it has a bit of French and German in there, Religion because one of the main characters is a nun, Geography because it features different countries and cities in Europe as they are going on a train from Paris, the Capital of France to Instanbul, a city in Turkey. It is also good if you want to be a police officer, secret detective ect when you're older. Overall it is just a great book and I 100% recommend it!

In the secret of the night train, a girl goes on a train to her Aunts house, where she is going to stay for a few nights but on the way she finds the missing Dimond in the bobel of the hat her aunt sent her. In the book there are little bits of French that it explains.

This book is a fictional book. This book is about a girl called Max who travels by train to Istanbul with Sister Marguerite to help her Great Aunt who is ill. Whilst on the journey Max discovers that there is a notorious thief onboard. Will Max uncover the villain? Read this exciting book to find out. My favourite character in the book is Rupert, he is very funny. He is forgetful, always late for the train departures and incredibly clumsy. The author makes him sound a bit like a clown. I would recommend this book to children who like trains and adventures.
