Evie's War
Holly Webb
Bestselling author Holly Webb returns with a moving story of love, loss and learning to grow up. In the seaside town of Whitby, when the United Kingdom is on the cusp of World War One, Evie and her family are touched by tragedy when Evie’s younger brother Alexander dies unexpectedly. As Evie’s mother and father struggle in their own ways to come to terms with their loss, Evie’s older brother David distracts himself with the ever-growing threat of war and Evie and her sister Kitty find ways to keep their spirits up. But when the threat of war turns into reality and David enlists in the army, Evie’s mother is truly heartbroken. And as the family does their best to contribute to the war effort, they also struggle with the sacrifices each of them are forced to make. Based on the real-life bombing of Whitby in 1914, this beautiful, powerful and important read by Holly Webb is devastating but also wonderfully uplifting. I love this book although it was quite sad and i probably wouldn't reccomend it to anyone else younger than me but it reminded me of a book called the Swallows flight, so if you liked that, read this!

I think it was sad. I liked kitty because she loves animals. It interests me because it is based on a real thing. I would recommend it to someone.

I liked that that this book was set in World War 1. I liked Evie the most because she was kind and had a puppy called Max. I would recommend this book to 11-year-olds.

Good book but although it is in childrens section it contains one swear word. I really enjoyed reading about the misdemeanors of Max the dachshund! I would recommend to those who like wartime stories.

A very good book. I would recommend it thoroughly . It was nice that it included some unexpected twists . My favrioute character was Evie.I would happily read it again and again . It was so sad when Barney howled at the train station and when he was shortly killed in war. Apart from that very very good.

This was a good fiction book about a girl struggling though the First World War with her brother on the front lines and her individual struggles as she tries to pull though it and help those around her at the same time whilst trying to do her bit for the War effort. I would recommend for older readers as it’s sad at some bits and doesn’t necessarily end with all the problems solved but does turn out alright just not perfect.

A great book about getting through life while WW1 is daunting upon the whole country. I loved reading about Evie and her two dogs and see how they managed to get through WW1. I love how so much of Holly Webb's historical fiction is true, and how she paints a picture in your mind, you really see through Evie's eyes. You get to follow Evie through all her ups and downs, ins and outs and all of things she's been through. Really enjoyed this book and would recommend.

This book is all about a family going through the ups and down of WW1. The main character, Evie, goes through a lot of things which make her devastated, happy, confused, scared and surprised. Losing a dog whom she, and many others, loved with all their hearts, was very hard for her but you'll have to read this book to find out about Evie's other challenges............
