An Academy for magic and special talents. A destiny unfulfilled. A secret legacy.

Charlie Bone awakes one morning to find the city covered with snow and all the animals gone. Could the discovery of an ancient mirror, and the movement of the shadow in the Red King’s portrait have something to do with it? Then a strange girl appears outside Charlie’s house. Can he trust her, and will she perhaps lead him to find someone he lost long before the animals?

My favorite character in the book is Uncle Paton. I would recommend the book to someone else, but it is better to have read the other books in the series first. I enjoyed this series of books so far, I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

The books are scary in places but really interesting. I never want to stop reading these ones but the books are big. I love how the friends all work together to try and solve what's happening and that they found Charlie bones dad alive.

For me at some bits in the story it was boring. However, when I read more of it, it got really good so I really liked it. I recommend it to every child of my age (10).

I really liked this book. It is number 5 in the series and they are always solving mysteries and going on quests, which makes it exciting. My favourite character was Emma, because she is always in the action and is a great female character. I would definitely reccommend this series.

I would definatley recommend it to any book lover! I love the way that the people that were evil in the other books now turned good and that the end of the book there was a cliff-hanger which makes you want to read the next book even more! Jenny Nimmo is the best author ever!

The only way to describe this book is a THRILLING adventure. Although I didn’t like the ending,( it was too short) I loved this book, and so will you if you read it.
