This is an illustrated version of Lear's classic nonsense poem that tells the tale of the epic sea voyage of two courteous lovers and their eventual marriage on the island of the bong tree, with the piggy-wig and his ring, the turkey vicar and the wedding feast eaten with a runcible spoon.

Robert seemed to enoy the rhyming in this one but found the story too short

It repeated and rhymed a lot. It was ok but not a lot happened. The book was like a song.

I loved the poetry and rhyme and because it has a cat in it.

Our copy is illustrated by someone else (wasn’t an available option), and is a cute version, though perhaps not quite my favourite. Regardless, it’s always a pleasure to read this poem aloud and it’s a great way to introduce poetry to very young children. My seven year old now adores reading it to her younger sibling!

Even though I have given this book five stars, I would rather give it ten stars because I like the rhyme.
