The Magicians of Caprona (The Chrestomanci Series, Book 2)
Diana Wynne Jones
Glorious new rejacket of a Diana Wynne Jones favourite, featuring Chrestomanci – now a book with extra bits!
The Dukedom of Caprona is a place where music is enchantment and spells are as slippery as spaghetti. The magical business is run by two families – the Montanas and the Petrocchis – and they are deadly rivals. So when all the spells start going wrong, they naturally blame each other. Chrestomanci suspects an evil enchanter; others say it is a White Devil. Or maybe a different kind of magic is needed to save Caprona…Reviews

My favourite character was Angelica as she managed to do good things by getting her spells wrong. The book was really funny at times especially when the two families got turned into Punch and Judy puppets. I would recommend this book for children who like stories about magic.

This book is probably an example of one of the greatest rivalries ever- the magical rivalry between the two spell-houses Montana and Petrocchi. The lengths that they go to, to attack each other, is amazing when they should be teaming up to save their kidnapped children. The families have very similar personalities, and would definitely enjoy each other's company, if it wasn't for their ancestors' nasty tricks. Chrestomanci somehow found the greatest way of uniting the two. I would really recommend this book for 8-12 year olds.

This is Romeo and Juliet without focusing on Romeo and Juliet. I like how Diana Wynne Jones has put a comical spin on a classic Shakespearian play. My favourite character is the Duchess. She's ... I won't give it away.
