The Nixie's Song: #1 Beyond Spiderwick Chronicles Series
Holly Black, Tony DiTerlizzi, Andrew McCarthy
Eleven year-old Nick Vargas thinks his sucky life is being turned upside down – his father has just remarried and moved his new wife and her daughter into his home in the soon-to-be-completed, Mangrove Hollow. And now, not only has Nick lost his bedroom to his wacky new step-sister Laurie (who lugs around this huge book about faeries) – if that wasn’t bad enough – Nick’s father actually wants him to spend time with her!
So when an ""expedition"" to a nearby lake turns up a nixie with a giant problem – and by giant, we mean the enormous, fire-breathing kind – it’s up to Nick and Laurie (with the help of Nick’s older brother and a very familiar face from the original Spiderwick Chronicles) to come up with a plan. Will they be able to stop the rampaging beast before all of Mangrove Hollow goes up in smoke?

Excellent fantasy story about 2 kids who find a fairy in the woods and have to fight against mystical creatures and a giant.

I really enjoyed this book. It showed me how one tiny coincidence can bring people together. Just like Nick and Laurie. At first Nick thought Laurie was a weirdo because she believed in faeries and then that ended until he saw one himself. It was a nixie called Tola. They helped her to find her sisters and then the came across giants. And that is how they reunited. Just one four leafed clothes can bring magic.

I found this book a bit boring. It was a bit too slow and predictable - some other books in the Spiderwick Chronicles are better.

I thought this book was amazing. I loved all of the characters especially the house boggart and it was an extraordinary mystery and adventure story.
