Alva rushes through the trees in the dead of night with her sniffer wolf, Fen. Being out alone when there's a kidnapper on the loose is reckless, but if she ever wants to be an investigator like her Uncle Magnus, she'll need to be first to the crime scene. But what Alva discovers raises more questions than it answers, drawing her into a dangerous search for truth, and for treasure.

This book is when Alva rushes to Giant’s Finger where her dad usually took her to but her father had gone away from their home Kilsgard to explore the world’s mysteries. Her Uncle, Magnus was an explorer and used to travel with her father but something was in their way. . . her mum and her little brother Ivan. (Her mum’s name was Brianna). She wished her mother had more faith in her when she was solving mysteries. She always stopped her but not this time. Her father, Bjorn had made them a hunt for them to get the treasure he and Magnus stole from Lindisfarne where Christian people lived. Then two people came from Lindisfarne called Wiglaf of Bamburgh and Edmund of Lindisfarne. They also came for their own treasure Bjorn and Magnus stole from a church in Lindisfarne but got caught by a man named Ingeld and a woman named Gudrun married to him. Then in return kind Alva gave them the treasure and her sword and in return Edmund brought out a book full of jewels and started picking them off the book until it was covered in brown, dusty leather. She felt sorry for him and her mother said it was time to go and she went back down Giant’s Finger and back home. The bit I like the most is when Alva shared the treasure they stole and the other bit I liked is how the author had amazing adverbs and adjectives. When I first got this book from the library I thought it was boring in fact it was amazing! I advise it to children who love reading mystery solving books. I give it a 5 out of 5.

At first Alva is rushing through the trees in the dead of night with her sniffer wolf, Fen. This makes me ask questions as the author has added good tension in her description. She was out alone when their is a kidnapper on the loose and that is reckless so what will happen to her? Something bad? Something good? But I understand that she wants to be a investigator like her Uncle Magnus, so she will need to be first to the crime scene. Not only does what Alva discover make her raise more questions than its answers but the way the author describes the scene makes me think the same. It draws her into a dangerous search for truth, and, like any Viking would want, treasure... which makes me think... what could it possibly be?

This is a really cool story about a girl, her mother and her uncle who give back some treasure that her father stole. My favourite character is the girl called Alva. I would recommend it to anyone who likes investigator stories.
