My Best Friend the Suffragette
Sally Morgan
Join two best friends as history is made in 1913. Eleven-year-old Christine has been taught that a girl's place is at home looking after her family and putting up with BEASTLY BIG BROTHERS. Mary has been taught that a girl's place is learning how to CHANGE THE WORLD. After meeting outside the suffragette headquarters, the girls become fast friends, writing as often as they can. Their letters fly back and forth across London, as the VOTES FOR WOMEN campaign threatens to bring the nation to its knees - buildings BURNING, windows SMASHING, postboxes EXPLODING. Will their friendship survive? Celebrating one hundred years since women first gained the right to vote, My Best Friend the Suffragette is an exciting read for children aged 6+, packed with fascinating historical details.
Reviews

I liked that they sent notes to each other , talking about suffragettes and their family. The story is fiction, my favourite character is Mary she turns into a detective and a suffragette. YES I would recommend it to my nanny.

It was factual. The book was about suffragettes that did lots of dangerous acts to help woman get the vote right in 1930's.

I really enjoyed this re-read and it's a funny book that holds a powerful message, although at some points it gets a bit serious. I think that I'm beginning to get a little old for it though.

My favourite character is Jane because she sacrificed her self just to get to jail.

I really enjoyed this book. It was really good because I love the layout of it (letters), and it taught me loads about suffragettes and suffragists. I think Mary is most like me because we look similar, have the same personality and we both want to be a detective when we're older! I would defenitely be a SUFFRAGETTE, not a SUFFRAGIST!

I really like how the book is written in two different handwriting 1 type for Mary 1 type for Christine. Also I like the way they write it in letter form. I would recommend this book to everyone.

My Best Friend the Suffragette is about two eleven year old girls named Mary Forrest and Christine Sedgwick. The book is letters from Mary and Christine to each other about the votes for women. Also this book review and the book itself have some rules: The letters and this book review are private, so private that if anyone tells they will be in big trouble. So anyone who reads this book review and the book must not tell anyone else. Only if you promise to do that you can read them both. Back to the summary. Through lots of secrets and Christine's cousin Jane going to jail, what do think will happen. My favourite character is Mary because she is so cunning and tidy.

My favourite character is Mary. The book is about Mary and Christine writing letters to each other during the time of the suffragettes. This is my favourite book so far.

It was a good book. I recommend it to 8 and above. But if your below 8 it should be fine. It was about these two girls that write letters to each other. Ones called Mary a budding detective. And the other is called Christine a artist. Try and find it in your local libary.

This book is great. I love the way the facts are mixed into the fiction. It's great how she's set it out into letters between Christine and Mary. I find the illustrations are amazing and help set the scene.
