Meet the leader of the Suffragettes, Emmeline Pankhurst, and a particularly plucky pup, during a momentous time in history!

Alfie can’t believe his luck when he is allowed to keep a tiny puppy he finds abandoned on the street. Rascal is cute as a button and has lots of attitude, and Emmeline Pankhurst is thrilled that her ward Alfie has a new friend. Alfie and Rascal deliver messages between the Suffragettes as they organise their ‘Votes for Women’ campaign. But it’s sometimes dangerous work, and it’s not long before Alfie and Rascal find out the true cost of the fight.

Full of adventure, fascinating history and lovely animals, this is the perfect read for young fans of Dick King-Smith and Michael Morpurgo.

You really feel like you are in this book and you never know what's coming next. The feelings are so strong. This is one of the best books I've ever read!

This book is set in the 1910. I would recommend it to some one if they like rebellion stories. The three main people are: Mrs Pankhurst (she is one of the leaders in the rebellion crowds) Alfie (he used to be a workboy but escaped) Rascal (she is a stray dog now Alfie's pet.) If you read this book please enjoy it.

This was a nice book to read about the courage suffragettes had, fighting for their cause. Every move they made was for a reason. I recommend it to 6 to 12 year old children.

I found this book a bit confusing as there are a lot of characters and a lot going on. It talked about the old days and female rights, some of this I understood and enjoyed, but found some bits hard to understand.

It fictionl book based on real events. I would recommend this book. I thought it was a great book about a cute puppy and about some very important history. My favourite character was of course the puppy because she was so cute. I think it was a really good book of fiction and fact while enjoying it immensely I also learned quite a lot of history.

I liked Rascal the little pup. It interested me because I love animals and my favourite type of animal is a dog or puppy. Yes I would recommend people to read this book if they like animals. It is an interesting book because Emmeline Pankhurst wants to get the vote for women and it gives you information about this time period.

i like this book. I recommend it to the animal and history lovers. Alfie and his sister Daisy have escaped the workhouse in Manchester. Rascal is a hungry puppy whose appetite never seems to disappear. When Alfie finds himself as a messenger boy for the women society suffragettes in November 1910 his sister nurses women that got hurt in violence during their marches. Then in 1914 Britain declares war on Germany and women at last get their vote. When Alfie comes back from war he is greeted by his sister and Mrs Pankhurst and his dog Rascal and her puppies.
