The island at the end of everything by Kiran Millwood Hargrave is a fiction book, based on leper colonies and a girl called Amihan as she is taken from her mother to live in an orphanage, but strives to get home. On the epic journey, she makes friends, has swings near death and an array of emotions. Along the story, there are realistic, yet shocking problems that really made me jump. It also shows the treatment of lepers, which was terrible but does show that people cared. It is cleverly written, with a surprise at the end which will make you smack yourself. I would recommend for people who are not starting, but is somewhere in the middle, and for people who are OK for tragedy. I loved the characters with interesting names and human personality. It also shows love finds a way with friends and family, no matter how difficult times are. Very well written.

A beautiful book and a wonderful adventure my heart broke in two and the was remade reading this book and I stayed up to one o’clock absorbed in the pages. Not atrociously long but still a worthwhile read recommended for ages 10 onwards as there are two deaths from natural causes. Enjoy! - Signed Queen Majorca Sparrow

I really enjoyed this book. My favourite character was the main character Amihan. I would recommended it to someone else because it was an interesting read about leprosy; a disease that has previously been hated on where people carrying this disease weren’t seen as human previously.

The thing I loved about in the book is how all the main characters stood strong for their beliefs. I found it really sad when the government discriminated these people who suffered from leprosy and how they were prejudiced towards them. This book really touched me on how badly people are treated just because they were different. I love how the characters grew up to be strong and brave as they go through a difficult journey. I will definitely recommend this book.

I found this book very interesting and exciting. It was all about ami, who is separated from her nanay, who has lepers. Ami is desperate to be re-united with her nanay. However, this proved to be difficult as Mr Zamora, who was in charge, wanted to take ami to the workhouse. A slightly sad, but fun-filled book for older children.

I loved this book because it was so descriptive and was about an island, that was so beautiful but no one ever visited it because it was an island full of lepers. When Mr Zamora, a person from the government comes to evacuate all children that are Untouched and not lepers, everyone turns against him. Amihan and all the other Untouched children are sent to Coron, the neighbouring island to Culion. It is truly a very sad story. I would recommend this book to anyone who thinks they can make a change to how sick people are treated.

This book is really interesting. It talks about a leper colony in the Phillipines. My favourite character is Ami because she faces lots of challenges but she never gives up. I would rate this book 10+ because some of the subjects may upset younger children; characters being taken from their families against their will, the workhouse, characters being treated badly for something they can't help.
