The Bookshop Girl
Sylvia Bishop
This story is about a little girl named Property Jones, so-called
because she was left in the lost property cupboard of a bookshop
when she was five years old. Property loves living in the bookshop,
but she has a whopper of a secret … she can’t actually read!
So Property doesn’t see the newspaper article announcing the chance
to win the Montgomery Book Emporium, the biggest and most magnificent
bookshop in the world! When her family win the competition,
Property finds herself moving to the Emporium, a magical place
filled with floor upon floor of books and a very bad-tempered
cat. But all is not at it seems at the Emporium and soon Property
Jones finds herself in a whole heap of trouble.

It’s all about this girl called Property Jones who moves bookshop because she wins a prize, which is another bookshop, in a competition. The person who owns that bookshop can’t pay for this script that is a fake. The script is of a Shakespeare play. They discover it is a fake.

I liked when they win the big bookshop in a raffle and Elliott Pink gave them a book about Shakespeare that was lots of money. It was fake and if they couldn't pay for it, they would have to give him everything they had. Property Jones saves the day!

I think it is a very good book, especially for people who like reading. I also like how its gently stretching the line between reality and fantasy, the settings in the book are very good at making you feel like you are experiencing them for real. I would recommend it to pretty much anyone.

I thought it was quite funny and abit interesting how Propertie's secret was kept until the very few last sentences of the book. It amused me how long she had kept the secret for and how realistic it looked as she was pretending to read. I probably liked Elliot the best because he was very grey and dark. You also found out he was just like Property and couldn't read either. He was very stern but that made him abit funny because where he wouldn't talk or just stare at people all the time! It probably interested me the most about where they got their emperor from, then 2 days later lost it again and had to fight it back to get their bookshops back and their Properties back. I would recommend it to someoen who likes big journey books and very funny ones.

This is a good book. It is about a girl who was left by her family in a cupboard. She was Found by Michael Jones (son of Netty Jones - bookshop owner). Then because nobody comes to claim her, she stays with Netty and Michael Jones. She’s hiding a whopper of a secret. She can’t read. The Jones family live in the White Hart bookshop until they read in the paper that a book emporium is being given away in a raffle by Montgomery. They win the raffle and go to the emporium to meet Montgomery. He gives them a viscous kitten. Due to a trick they have to give all their money to baddie Elliott Pink. Montgomery tries to make things up to them and fix the issue.

My favourite character is property jones because she’s smart and she notices a lot of stuff that other people don’t.I would recommend this book to people who like a bit of mystery and who also like funny stuff.

Amazing. It was easy to understand, exciting, tense and full of mystery. My favourite character was either Michael or Property. It is very gripping, especially when Property is stuck inside the stacks. I would recommend this book for ages 5-12. You just cannot stop reading it! I finished this book in a day.
