I found Sante's (the main character) story very moving. Her mum died at childbirth and the story doesn't mention the dad. Surprisingly she is then looked after by a golden eagle who she later names Priss. One day when Sante (girl) is on the beach with Priss (Sante is still a baby) when a woman called Mama Rose takes her and Priss in. they are a travelling Circus and they have a very good life then one day once she is older Sante is followed by grey Eyes and the African

A heartbreaking, emotional story, realistic yet magical. I really enjoyed this novel; it made me cry. My favourite character was Scarlett because she can quickly come up with a plan in unprecedented problems. Scarlett is a shy, quiet character but she can be kind, clever and helpful. Yes, I would definitely recommend this. I think it is suitable for ages 8+ but I think it is more of an adult book because of its complexity. But any adventure fans will enjoy.
