I think Simon is lonely in this book because he isn't a pair and then at the end he meets the banana called Betty and they become a pair. I found the book quite funny.

He found someone who likes to go outside which was what Simon wanted to do. But it was Betty the banana but Simon was stripy and Betty was not but thy made a magnificent pair!
