It was interesting hearing about how children lived in the past. Yes I’d recommend it.

It was very inspiring, and very emotional about a girls adventure through the war time without anyone to help her through it. will she make friends and if she does will they stay close to her?

It was very adventurous and I always wanted to read on to see what would happen next. BEST BOOK EVER! My favourite part was when they found out of was Kevin that set the bed not Archie, because I never knew what the characters reactions would be like. My favourite character was Shirley. the book was fiction but the way the author wrote it made it feel like it was real. I would TOTALLY recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure stories. Also this book never gets boring a d there is almost ALWAYS a problem that needs solving and it always seems to be Shirley who needs to fix it. Poor Shirley.

This book amazed me how hard it is to be an evacuee. It was factual and fictional. I couldn't choose a favourite character; the main character would be most peoples’ favourite, but all the characters are interesting. I think everyone should read this and see how lucky we are to not have experienced any wars. It suits the title really well, with Shirley wanting to see her mum again and wanting her to come and properly say goodbye, but then she becomes fond of the people she stays with. The title is actually a line from a song that was popular in the war.

I think this book is brilliant and fits in with the Year Six National Curricular (if your doing WW2). This book kept me in suspense and was always so good at shifts in formality, so was good for my SATs. I'm pleased to have this book in my possession. Xx
