I would recommend this book as it shows people that you can be friends with anyone and that you can overcome anything.

This book is about Miss Victoria Conroy, daughter of Sir John Conroy, comptroller to the Duchess of Kent. It is set in the victorian era. Miss V Conroy is sent to become a companion to Princess Victoria. I liked this book because it explores how Victoria was in danger and under pressure as the heiress presumptive. There is lots of adventures and dramas.

An amazing page-turner of a read, this book had me enthralled from the first page all the way up to the acknowledgments! Miss V. Conroy is as quiet as a mouse and prefers to slip away unseen, but as she doesn’t have the responsibilities of being the oldest child this has never been a problem. However, when she becomes playmate to “the Other Party” (the young princess Victoria) will it be time for her to step out of the shadows and make her voice he heard? Life at Kensington Palace is not as glamorous as it first seemed as Miss V. discovers when her life suddenly begins to revolve around it. Princess Victoria lives under a strict set of rules called the System that Miss V.’s father has enforced. The princess insists they are doing this against her will but, ever loyal to her father, Miss V. refuses to believe it. Will Miss V. join the princess’s rebellious ways, or stick with her father? After all, “you can always count on a Conroy”, can’t you...?

This book is great for lovers of history! It takes the life of Princess Victoria and looks at it from a different view. It tells the story of a girl who was forced to be Victoria's friend by her father, just so they both had somebody to talk to. In Victoria's diaries, she states that she hated this girl but Lucy Worsley writes a whole different story, based on the idea that they may have been friends but the fact needed to be kept a secret.

This book was amazing. She was trapped in a palace but it was like a prison and she had to follow the system as she might be queen one day. This is so interesting and I loved it - it is a really fun way to understand history.

This book is good if you like history and mystery. Some of the events in the book didn't actually happen but they give a twist to the story. Most of the characters are real e.g.Sir John Conroy and Princess Victoria. I think the book would be good for ages 9-14.Very good book.
