A magical fairy story about believing in yourself, perfect for children learning to read. From the author of Dilly the Dinosaur. Flora the Fairy enjoys school. But one day, her teacher tells them they will be tested on their magic skills the next day. They have to change the class dragon, Smoky, into something else, and back again. All the children start practising but, try as she might, Flora can't remember the words of the spell. She keeps getting it wrong! Even her friend Harry can do it right – what will Flora's mummy and daddy say when she doesn't pass the test? Luckily, Flora's parents, with the help of Nana and Grandpop, show Flora that all she needs to do is relax. They have great fun changing things into other things at home. And the following day, Flora passes the test with flying colours! The Reading Ladder series helps children to enjoy learning to read. It features well-loved authors, classic characters and favourite topics, so that children will find something to excite and engage them in every title they pick up. This book is funny because they were turning smokey into all sorts of different things. Smokey is the class pet, the little dragon.

My favourite character was Flora because she got the spells wrong and she looks beautiful. The best bit was when Flora had to make a spell to make Harry behave.

It was a nice story but too short for a 7 year old. I liked the Dragon in the story because he changed into different animals. I would recommend to a younger child as the story and pictures were good.

I really liked this book about Flora the Fairy, who was being taught spells in school with her friends by her teacher, Miss Glitter, who turned a dragon into a small unicorn. Flora had trouble with getting the spells right, but finally she did, and she was really happy, I would recommend this book

I found this book interesting and it was fun. Flora was worried she wouldn't pass her test, but she practised at home with her family. She passed first time and got it all right!
