The companion novel to the hugely popular THE THORNTHWAITE INHERITANCE

After a lifetime of plotting each other’s demise, orphan twins Lorelli and Ovid Thornthwaite have reached an uneasy truce. No longer trying to kill each other, they are living a quieter life in the remains of the burnt-out Thornthwaite Manor. It’s not long, though, before some peculiar ‘near accidents’ begin to take place and the twins begin to wonder – is someone else trying to bump them off?

Could it be the oddball builder Dragos, or Beaufort Nouveau, the twins’ triple Michelin-starred chef? What would old Tom the gardener have to gain from the deaths of Lorelli and Ovid? Or stinking rich Uncle Harry, who claims to be the twins’ long-lost uncle on their mother’s side? As the number of near fatal ‘accidents’ ramp up, it becomes clear that there are some dreadful forces at work – but just who is behind the Thornthwaite betrayal?

I loved this sequel, as I enjoyed the first book so much, I instantly realised how much I would love "The Thornthwaite Betrayal." It gave a different atmosphere compared to The first book and I really acknowledged that. Next up is the "Society of Thirteen."

This book was very good. My favourite character was Ovid because he always came up with the best ideas but Lorelli was very clever too. This book is about how the twins (Lorelli and Ovid) are always trying to murder each other but they have had enough so they call a truce. But there is somebody else, (who turns out to be the most innocent person in the book, Millicent) trying to kill them. I would recommend this book to people aged 8 up.

this book was just as good as the thornthwaite inheritance, if not better! it was all about their new uncle, harry Marshall and how he just turned up out of nowhere and nurse griddle finds someone unexpected! when mrs bagshaw goes to prison it turns out she didn't get let out... harry Marshall is preposterously rich and he has everything he's ever wanted, a private worldwide famous chef, a billionaire home but no family so he sets out to find lorelli and Ovid and starts living with them. lorelli gets two new friends called Felicia and Millicent, my favourite bit is when I found out Felicia called lorelli, Lori-chicken and that made me laugh out loud! the biggest surprise was when I found out Ovid was kissing with Felicia behind the mill when he was supposed to be dating millicent! at this Millicent got really mad and went crazy and wanted to chop up Felicia and almost did! when Ovid was kissing with Felicia, lorelli was hiding in the bushes with millicent watching Ovid and Felicia behind the mill! one of the surprises was that harry was keeping something in the mine but I won't tell you what because I have already said enough! I really recommend this book and if you read it I hope you enjoy it!

I think it's really clever and I liked the twist at the end and how it keeps you thinking about who is the person setting up traps for Ovid and Lorelli.

Now the mystery of their parents and the source of all the mysterious goings on has been solved in the first book, Lorelei and Ovid think they can relax. However, when the attempts on their lives start again suddenly, the twins turn detectives again, hoping to solve the mystery before the killer can succeed.

What I enjoyed about this book and why you may like it. I love the complex writing style and storyline of this book. It is one of the most entertaining novels I have read. Which includes mystery and murder with added humor. Gareth.P.Jones keeps you guessing all the way though “Who’s behind the murdered”, “Who is going to be murdered next”, the questions keep on coming which gripped me. I recommend this book to children above 7!

Why I choose this book. The front cover sums up the book and its humor really well, that’s what attracted me to it in the first place. I thought it looked violent and I’m intrigued by stories that are barbarous. I know some people say "never judge a book by it's cover" but in this case, I think my judgement was correct.
