This a very detailed book in a series with plots and twists in a young girl’s journey in a new world. Taking place in the 18th century with supernatural powers and creatures roaming around London beyond understanding of mundanes (ordinary humans) this series sees characters through the journey of life, teaching them and the readers (of this series) very valuable lessons. As mesmerising this book can be, I do recommend it for teenagers not young children as the plot can get very dark. I enjoyed this series because it reaches a sense of hope in life however stuck you are in life. My favourite character is Sophie Collins because despite her past she continues to find hope and friends (and a job!). She is very headstrong and independent and always looks out for others despite it being against her happiness.
