“Look at the polar bears,” said Terry. “You see that one on the left, the fatter one? That’s our dad – our real dad. But you’re not to tell.""

Drawing on Michael Morpurgo’s own childhood experience of first seeing his real father on television, My Father Is a Polar Bear tells the story of two young brothers rediscovering their birth father in the most unlikely of places – and in an entirely unexpected guise! A warm and delightful tale of family bonds and love told by a master storyteller and beautifully illustrated by a talented new artist.

There were lots of pictures which I enjoyed looking at. I liked how the story was set and I think it has a very happy ending. I was particularly happy when both boys reunited with their father.

My best character was the polar bear actor And and it was really funny when they did a show about polar bears fighting.

It was confusing how you thought the dad was a polar bear but he actually was not.

This was only a short book, it did not take long to read. I found out that his real father is a real polar bear

Andrew and Terry have a father who is a polar bear because his father is a actor with Aunty Betty in the show. They went with aunty Betty to the theatre because Terry wants to see a actor polar bear. Terry felt excited to meet his real father and they had not seen him for many years. They parents got divorced and they lived with another dad. I would recommend it because it was interesting.

This isn't my favourite Michael Morpurgo book that I have read, I don't think it was long enough for my usual reading ability.

Too many big words on almost every page. Words like surreptitiously. Requires regular adult input.

This fiction book was a bit too grown up for me at this time. My Mum liked this book and said that "it would be better understood by older children, especially those with two Dads or even two Mums". The illustrations were really good especially when the scary face jumped out of the TV!
