Short-story-telling at its very best, from the master storyteller.

It all began with a necklace, made of glistening pink cowrie shells. A long, long necklace that had taken Cherry days – weeks – of careful, painstaking work. It was nearly complete, and Cherry was determined not only that it would be the longest necklace she had ever made, but that it would be fit for a giant! But the end of the summer holidays had arrived. ""You’ve only got today, Cherry,"" said her mother. ""Just today, that’s all."" Cherry didn’t mind, a day would be enough – she only needed a few more shells after all. So, amidst the taunts of her older brothers, she set out to search for them. Then the clouds grew dark and the waves grew large, and as the storm blew in, Cherry realized, to her horror, that she was cut off from the shore. From then on, events began to take a decidedly dark turn. And one from which there was no turning back…

I have read this book

I thought this books had lots of ups and downs. I thought that the twist was heartbreaking.

My favourite character was Cherry. This was a great story but I didn’t like the ending. I wouldn’t recommend this book to my friends because it was too sad.

I like this book because I love the beach but I thought it had quit a sad ending because I wasn't expecting Cherry to die. Yes I would recommend this book to someone else.

This book was really good but sad at the end of the story. My favourite character was the girl called Cherry. I would recommend it to someone that likes adventure stories and that doesn't mind sad stories.

In this book, there was a girl named Cherry who was making a necklace out of cowrie shells. She went to a beach that she and her family had found, and looked for those shells to complete her necklace. Her family left before her to clean up their cottage, and she ends up drowning and goes through a tunnel where she meets two ghosts. They tell her their story, and she asks them the way home. When she goes home no one sees her so it means that she has died. This book is fiction. I liked the main character, and I would recommend it for others.

It was a very sad story because the girl died however, it does have a lesson to always listen; you never expected that to happen. The author was very good. It would recommend this book because it is adventurous.

A tale that is very tense and thrilling. Cherry and her four older brothers and their parents are on holiday in Cornwall. While her brothers are snorkelling, she collected some shells for her giants necklace. One day when collecting shells alone the tide comes in and crashes into the cliffs where Cherry is collecting her shells. Is she going to be ok?
