An archly funny, classic mystery adventure with a magic twist!

Lucy Goodly is the new boot girl at Grave Hall, working for the cold, aloof Lord Grave. The other staff – Vonk the Butler, Mrs Crawley the cook and Violet the scullery maid – all seem friendly but Lucy soon notices that strange things are afoot in her new home – and not just Mrs Crawley’s experimental anchovy omelettes. There are moving statues, magical books and Lord Grave has a secret. Meanwhile, all over the country, children are vanishing. Could the mystery of the missing children be linked to the strange goings-on? Lucy is determined to find out…

This is an amazingly adventurous mystery book! It has a steady mystery and is VERY intriguing to read.By the time youron page 3 , you can't stop reading. I do keep in mind this isn't necesarilary informative or fiction , it's something that can happen in real life - but it is unlikely. I like Lord Grave - yes, that's where 'Grave' comes from - because he makes wise decisions , doesn't act dramatic if he is rejected or disliked (happens often in the book) and he is quite thoughtful. This book interests me because Windsor writes about Lucy Goodly , a poor 12 year old , who has to use magic to survive - I love the fact she doesn't only think about wealthy people - also poor! This book gave me a whole new perspective. i recommend it to 8+ and little detectives. Taisiya.

I read the second book first and it was really good, but I did not understand who some of the characters were. Reading the first book made me realise how they got into being in Grave Hall.

This book was very interesting as there was lots of suspense. My favourite character is Violet because she is of my age so thinks and does same to me. I would recommend it to someone else since it was a very good book.

I thought the book was a bit hard to keep track with because it was hard to understand some parts of the book. I thought this book’s story was a very mysterious one until they found out it was a kidnapper making the children go lost not zombies. I liked Lucy the best because she got to wear armor, even though she didn’t like I still found it cool.

I did like it but for me it was an easy read. my favourite character was lord gave because he is a different personality and is sinister person. The front cover was very eye catching with all the main characters and the title bursting out on the front. I would recommend this book to to those from 7 to 9 because it is an easy read but a very good story.

I loved this book!!!! This is because I love mystery books because they make me sit on the edge of my seat and it is so exciting, and I wonder what's going to happen next. This is one of those books. It includes magic, mayhem and has a good and evil theme. It was a fiction story, and I liked Lucy the best because she was very magical and didn't even know it!! I also liked Lord Grave, he was very nice ad looks evil when he isn't..... In addition, I liked Bathsheba and Smell because they are very cunning animals and can talk! I like Amethyst (in a devious sort of way, haha!!), Kathleen, she looks soo grown up and makes really good hot chocolate!! Violet because she is so cute and small and is very innocent! I would definitely recommend this book. The rating is 5/5 because it's soooooooooooooo good!! You should definitely read it because I know you'll love it....

I found this absolutely thrilling and how Lucy Goodly suspects Lord Grave and Amethyst Shade is actually guilty for kidnapping. My favourite character is Lucy Goodly because she learns she is magic. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes the murder most unladylike and is looking for a new book to read.

I really liked this book because I like thriller books. One man called Grave teamed up with a girl called Goodly. Their mission was to find a kidnapper who has kidnapped someone. In the end, Goodly and Grave found the kidnapper and brought the victim to safety. I liked Goodly because Grave was a bit odd whereas Goodly is normal and is very nice. I would recommend this book to everybody.
