The Goldfish Boy
Lisa Thompson
A story about finding friendship when you're lonely - and hope when all you feel is fear. Twelve-year-old Matthew is trapped in his bedroom by crippling OCD, spending most of his time staring out of his window as the inhabitants of Chestnut Close go about their business. Until the day he is the last person to see his next door neighbour's toddler, Teddy, before he goes missing. Matthew must turn detective and unravel the mystery of Teddy's disappearance - with the help of a brilliant cast of supporting characters. Page-turning, heartbreaking, but ultimately life-affirming, this story is perfect for fans of Can You See Me, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time and Wonder. ""A genuinely clever mystery"" - Robin Stevens, author of the Murder Most Unladylike series. ""A great cast of characters and an intriguing mystery - I loved it!"" Ross Welford, author of Time Travelling with a Hamster. A sensitive, empathetic portrayal of living with OCD. This is a book that will make you laugh and cry. The Goldfish Boy was shortlisted for many awards and became one of the biggest children's books of 2017.
Reviews

I didn't like the illustrations but the story made up for it. Quite emotional and I can relate to Matthew - at times I have 'magical' thinking.

This book is very interesting and full of mystery. I like it because I really like mysterious books, and in this one a toddler goes missing! The main character is called Matthew, also known as goldfish boy. He has OCD, which means he is afraid of germs. I rate this book 3 stars because it talks a lot about Matthew cleaning and watching people from his window, but I do recommend it, especially to people who like books with mystery.

Matthew finds himself investigating the disappearance of the toddler next door when all he really wants to do is stay in his room and stay clean. A brilliant mystery story with friendship, adventure and excitement. I really liked this book as there was a twist at the end that I did not expect and recommend it to boys and girls from age 8 up.

THIS IS HILARIOUS 😆 This is a non-fiction book and it was not factual. It interested me because of the title read "Goldfish Boy." I do recommend this book to other people because it's a book everyone enjoys.

I really do recommend this. Matthew has OCD and is brave for himself. If you do like this, then read A Kind of Spark by Elle McNicoll. If you've read that but not this, READ THIS!!!

The Goldfish Boy is another amazing book by Lisa Thompson. I got into this book very quickly and loved the way that she explained OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and everything about the book. I 100% recommended this book if you want to get into a book.

This was a book from school that my teachers recommended to the class and I thought I'll give it a go. Turns out I LOVED it, the story was sad yet joyful! I love how the boy 'Matthew' finds his feet again and lives a normal life ones again. I would recommend it to people who don't mind sad stories and like happy endings so that is why I gave it 4 stars.
