School According to Humphrey
Betty G. Birney, Jason Chapman
After Humphrey’s fur-raising holiday, he was looking forward to returning to Room 26.
Mrs. Brisbane is still there, but Humphrey is shocked to find that the classroom is filled with strangers, like Rolling Rosie, Hurry-Up-Harry and Forgetful Phoebe. At first, all Humphrey wants to do is find his old classmates but he soon learns that these new students REALLY-REALLY-REALLY need a helping paw.

Look out classroom pets, 'cause here comes Humphrey, the classroom hamster! He has a best friend called Og, who is a frog. I like the book from cover to cover.

This was an excellent choice of book from me, I think, especially as I read it just after the school year finished and I'll have to be moving up to the next year (although I will still be in the same school). I liked how there were so many friendship problems and other problems too and how the children and Humphrey worked hard to fix it. Og the frog didn't do much, but he was certainly very supportive with all his 'BOING's. It was fun reading about Humphrey and Ogs' reaction when the new children for Room 26 walked in. I know how much Humphrey missed his old classmates, but I understand why he didn't want to move into Room 18. I had my fingers and toes crossed right from when Stop-Giggling-Gail Morgenstern, Raise-Your-Hand-Heidi Hopper and Repeat-It-Please-Richie Rinaldi announced what they wanted Mrs Brisbane to do with her class pets. It was lucky something else replaced that though! I knew that Humphrey wouldn't move away from Room 26, but it was still exciting to see if I was right or not! I wasn't so keen on Helpful Holly in this book. She's always wanting to help people, especially Rolling-Rosie Rodriguez, but she has to learn to accept that she cannot always help people if they don't want or need it. It was quite surprising, as it mentioned in the book, that Helpful Holly picked Rolling-Rosie to help her with the bats and balls. I realised that it was the other way around when that happened. I'd been like Rosie earlier and thought that Holly needed no help. But even though Rosie didn't need Holly, Holly needed Rosie. My favourite child in the class was either Rolling-Rosie Rodriguez, Just-Joey Jones or Hurry-Up-Harry Ito. Rosie because she was an independent girl and was ready for when nobody was there to help her with her wheelchair, Joey because he was a simple and plain boy but that made him amazing and it was quite nice to hear that he had picked a hamster for a pet or Harry because he and his family really did seem brilliant with Humphrey's help with the clock.

It's fiction, and the person I like is Og because every time he says BOING I laugh.

It's very amazing how a small hamster-Humphrey(a very nice hamster indeed)can change the children in the class's problems. Complete with fabulous adjectives, I would recommend this book to everyone !
