It's based on a true story because the Palio was a real race in Italy and only two females competed and won. This book is calling to horse lovers like me and I would definitely recommend it. My favourite character was Lola because at the start she was quite fiery when she broke Jake Mayo's nose and that reminds me of me because I lashed out at a boy once and I adore horses. It also tells you true facts about the war.

Another amazing book by Stacy Gregg!! In Italy a dangerous horse race takes place. The Palio!! One young girl dreamt of racing it since she first heard of it but the bad news is her best friend who also wants to race will have to race as a Porcupine. Just like that young girl a modern girl sought to find the horse that races like no other. Will she find him and will their bond travel to become history.

A lovely read about horses and the strong bond they have with their owners. Nico and Loretta (Lola) have that kind of bond. As soon as they meet on Lola's first ever trip to Italy with her nonna, they learn to love each other. But Lola learns some secrets on her little holiday. The grandfather of the boy who owns Nico was once Nonna's sweetheart but they were separated for almost seventy years. Marco and Nonna played together, chatted together and even rode in the Palio together. Wanting to follow in the footsteps of her nonna, Lola enters the Palio on Nico. Could she win the race with the help of four new friends- or will it all end in chaos?
