When Pierrot becomes an orphan, he must leave his home in Paris for a new life with his Aunt Beatrix, a servant in a wealthy household at the top of the German mountains. But this is no ordinary time, for it is 1935 and the Second World War is fast approaching; and this is no ordinary house, for this is the Berghof, the home of Adolf Hitler.

Quickly, Pierrot is taken under Hitler’s wing, and is thrown into an increasingly dangerous new world: a world of terror, secrets and betrayal, from which he may never be able to escape.

I really liked this book because it is a fictional but based around the time in WW2. One of the most interesting characters would be Adolf Hitler because the way the author has portrayed him, he seems as if he was a kind man (but in reality he was a bad man). I would recommend this book to people who like reading about history book and people who like to have the characters of their books to have a complex mindset.

I thought this book showed how the Nazis manipulated people. It gave an inside view of what went on in the Berghof. It is about a boy called Pierrot who becomes an orphan. He is sent to live with his aunt, who works at the Berghof, the house of Hitler. He is forbidden to write to his Jewish friend Anshel, and his name is changed to one more German sounding. Pierrot does everything to prove himself to Hitler. My favourite character was Anshel. I would partially recommend it because it is interesting, but it is very depressing and it makes you turn against most of the characters.

I liked it because it was a mix of fact and fiction. My favourite character is Ernst. I would recommend this to anyone who likes ww2.

This book is about a boy who goes from innocent to a Nazi. It is very emotional, so do not read this book, if you don't like sad books. The boy at the top of the mountain is a very mature book, so I would recommend this book to readers aged 12+. Also, for younger readers, John Boyne has also written "The boy in the striped pyjamas", which is amazing. One note for John Boyne: Could you please write some books where the main charasser is a girl?
