Zoo Boy
Sophie Thompson, Rebecca Ashdown
Hello, Dear Reader.
Are you sitting, lying down, standing on your head, eating a jam sandwich comfortably?
Then I’ll begin…
I want to introduce you to a boy called Vince, whose birthday it is today…
Vince is an normal boy with an unusual dislike for animals. Well, you’d feel the same if your father was always working at a zoo and your mother had run off with a lion tamer.
Then, on his eighth birthday, Vince discovers he has ""the gift"". He can talk to animals! You think this is amazing? Perhaps you should meet the spoiled and demanding zoo animals that Vince encounters. There’s a penguin who wants fish fingers, a flamingo that wants pink candyfloss and an owl that wants sugared mice. Now Vince is expected to meet their demands… on his birthday! But everyone seems to have forgotten about that…
A hilarious, delightful debut for 6+ readers by actress Sophie Thompson, with black and white illustrations by the wonderfully talented Rebecca Ashdown.
Reviews

I like vince who is zoo boy. He has a gift of his grandpa jaco to speak to animals. The animals were being greedy and mean. He made friends with a badger called horris who arranged a big party for his birthday

A bit to easy and too short a story, probably better for younger readers

I really enjoyed this book and thought it was amazing that he could speak to animals. I liked that they threw him a party at the end to say thank you for all his help.

I loved this book especially as it is about animals (I'm very passionate about animals) that can talk! My favourite character in this book is Asquith the penguin, although he did make a rude comment about Vince's orange jumper. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend.

This book is fantastic! I enjoyed it when it was Zoo boys birthday, I also enjoyed that he could talk to animals and he could hear what the animals were saying to him. He sang a song to all the animals to say that he was sorry as he gave the animals the wrong food. I would recommend this book to anyone.
