Early Readers are stepping stones from picture books to reading books. A blue Early Reader is perfect for sharing and reading together. A red Early Reader is the next step on your reading journey.

Jim the cabin boy decides that the pirates of the bad ship Scullywag need cheering up, so he suggests that they should go on a picnic. But he doesn’t know that pirates’ picnics are not like ordinary picnics at all. Can the Scullywag’s crew avoid rain, rotten eggs and quicksand to find the perfect island to hold their party?

I didn't like the picnic because the end is silly. I did not think there is coffee restaurant in small islands.

The chapters were so small so I could do it quickly!

I thought it was a fiction book. If it was a fiction book I would like Bristly Bert because he was cheeky eating rotten eggs. I would recommend this book to Ruby because she would know what food pirates eat.

I liked it when the Captain got pinched by a crab and the crew were cross at him because the Captain tricked them and won. The little rat Rotter is my favourite character in the story.
