Billy's Blitz
Barbara Mitchelhill
Winner of the Young Quills Prize for Historical Fiction.
When War breaks out, Billy’s dad joins the army and most of his friends are evacuated from Balham, South London. But Billy’s mum doesn’t believe the bombs will ever fall on them and she refuses to send him and his sister Rose away. Life in Balham has certainly changed for Billy: no school, no friends and, because of rationing, no treats.
But by September 1940, things are about to get a lot worse. Hitler has a plan for the destruction of London and soon Billy is caught up in the Blitz: an event so terrifying, it will take every ounce of courage for him to survive in war-torn Balham and keep his family together.
Reviews

I like this book as it is about the world war 2 and is interesting. The best part is when Billy and his sister have to go on a journey to find their Mum. I would recommend this book to over 8 year olds.

It was a very good book that kept you reading until the end.It is a fiction book. I would recommend it to someone who enjoys history books, but it would also be a bit gross to some people.

I think other children should read this because it is based on a real story and shows you what life was like in WW2.

I found this book sad because Billy's dad goes to war and most of his friends are evacuated out of the country but Billy's mum refuses to send away Billy and his sister Rose because she believes that the bombs will never fall on them. Now he has no friends, no school and no treats because of rationing. By September 1940 things get worse...
