Poppy Pym and the Pharaoh's Curse
Laura Wood
The first book in the prize winning mystery series. Poppy Pym has grown up in the circus, taming lions before lunch and learning acrobatics in the afternoon. But when she turns eleven, her circus family decides she needs a more traditional education, and she is sent to boarding school. At first Poppy doesn’t fit in at St Smithen’s, a school that is very different from the circus. Then, an ancient Egyptian ruby arrives at school and dangerous accidents start occurring. Suddenly it’s up to Poppy to save her new school and solve the mystery of the Pharaoh’s curse! Perfect for younger fans of A Murder Most Unladylike and older Enid Blyton stories The first book was the winner of the Montegrappa Scholastic New Children’s writing Prize (2015), chosen from almost 1,000 entries Exciting, funny and adventurous, Poppy Pym blends a classic boarding school story with a quirky circus family and a thrilling smuggling mystery

I like when the package which Pym and the rest of the circus had sent her exploded and glitter was everywhere and lots of fun, colourful things came out. My favourite character is Kip he is funny and always does silly and stupid things. It is a book for boys and girls for all ages aswell. Miss Susan was really sus when she kept appearing after each strange event.

I would highly recommend this book about circuses, curses and treasure. Poppy Pym grew up in a travelling circus-never going to a proper school before until one day her circus family decided she should get a proper education. They send her Saint Smithen's-a boarding school. Some ancient Egyptian treasure is put on display including a ruby beetle which has an interesting backstory. Suddenly it goes missing. Can Poppy Pym discover who has stolen the ruby before it is gone forever?

It's about a girl named Poppy Pym who grew up in the circus and for the first time is going to a proper school. She makes 3 new friends very quickly and also learns that an ancient Egyptian exhibit is coming to her school before going to the museum. It is said to have a curse. So if you love adventures and detective books this is the book for you!
