An Eagle in the Snow
Michael Morpurgo
The powerful new novel from the master storyteller – inspired by the true story of one man who might have stopped World War II.
1940. The train is under attacks from German fighters. In the darkness, sheltering in a railway tunnel, the stranger in the carriage with Barney and his mother tells them a story to pass the time. And what a story. The story of a young man, a young soldier in the trenches of World War I who, on the spur of the moment, had done what he thought was the right thing. It turned out to have been the worst mistake he ever could have made – a mistake he must put right before it is too late…Reviews

Barney and his Ma met a stranger telling an incredible story about WW2. I like Billy (who was the stranger!) because he saved a girl called Christine during WW2. I recommend this book to people wanting information about WW2 and Henry Tandey.

It interested me because it's about world war 1. It's set in 1940. It's about a train that is under attack by German fighters. It's also about a young man hoe is a soldier in the trenches of world war 1 who, on the spur of the moment , had done what he thought was the right thing.

I think as a side book for advanced readers this would be an amazing book. It also teaches you about soldiers and what wars do to there minds after the war. It's an amazing fiction book. My favourite character (although it's hard to choose) was Billy, the main person in the story. Billy is based on a real person called Henry Tandey.

I would recommend it to older children as it is about the war( first and second). My favourite part of the book is when Billy let Hitler go without killing him. This would have changed the history of the world.I loved the fact it was a true story.

Very interesting. Turns outthat the stranger that was telling the story was a ghost or made-up.

I enjoyed this one because the story the stranger was telling was so good and mysterious, it really questions the what ifs in History. I definitely recommend it!

This is fictional but based on real events in history. My favourite character was the little boy because he listened well to the story and was likeable. It's based in the war and evacuees. They are told a story about a man called Billy in the last war. I would recommend this to others to read.
