The first book by brilliant new comic author, Will Mabbitt, shortlisted for the Branford Boase Award. -------------- When Mabel Jones unknowingly commits 'The Deed' she finds herself swiftly bundled into a sack and carried off to the pirate ship the Feroshus Maggot! Crewed by the strangest bunch of pirates you would ever want to meet, and captained by the dreaded Idryss Ebeneezer Split (a wolf with a false leg carved from a human thighbone, a rusty cutlass sheathed in his belt and a loaded pistol tucked in his pants with no fear of the consequences), the Feroshus Maggot whisks Mabel Jones off on the adventure of a lifetime.

I like Mabel's hair and I liked the bit where someone told her not to help Captain Idris Ebenezer Split but we didn't know why the person told her that.

This book is brilliant! An exciting, eccentric book packed with quirky characters and fearsome pirates. I loved the exciting start to the book. My favourite character was Split the Captain of the Feroshus Maggot, because he's cool and feisty. The book was funny and I really enjoyed it. I want to read the second book in the series now.

I thought this book was really good because it was a massive adventure of a young girl finding treasure for the pirates so they can get through a magical portal. they only have so much time to find it before a comet comes over. the story takes you to a lot of places from the sea to the ghost town.Mabel is really worried about her parents but when she gets home it is like no time has passed at all. I think my favorite character was probably Mabel Jones because she was so fearless. She was that fearless she was even kidnapped by the pirates that she had to find the treasure for. I definitely recommend this book for those you like adventure stories because there is a lot of adventure in this book.

This is my favourite book! It always has been since I was eight or nine, I'm eleven now, and I've read it eleven times (including this one) and its sequels ten times (of the sequels Mabel Jones and the Doomsday Book is my favourite) Anyway, That's enough of me Blabbering on about how much I like this book, Let's get on with what actually happens... When Mabel Jones is captured by pirates in the middle of the night and taken to a mysterious other world Mabel has to be Stealthy, Cunning and Brave to take all five pieces of the X, Put them in the right place and then defeat evil Captain Split and Count Von Klack with the help of her new friends to get back home again!

I love how the author speaks to the audience rather than just tell a story. It livens it up and is rather funny.

It is about a girl who is captured from her bedroom by pirate animals who live in a human-less future and goes on an adventure to get back home again (briefly. There are sequels when that happens again )

This is an exciting story with lots of fun characters. Mabel Jones is clever and brave. I can't wait to read the next story, Mabel Jones and the Forbidden City. I am five years old. My mummy loved this story too.
