’You’re telling me there are fairies in this wood?’

When Alice’s brother gets a longed-for chance for a heart transplant, Alice is suddenly bundled off to her estranged grandmother’s house. There’s nothing good about staying with Nell, except for the beautiful Darkling Wood at the end of her garden – but Nell wants to have it cut down. Alice feels at home there, at peace, and even finds a friend, Flo. But Flo doesn’t seem to go to the local school and no one in town has heard of a girl with that name. When Flo shows Alice the surprising secrets of Darkling Wood, Alice starts to wonder, what is real? And can she find out in time to save the wood from destruction?

I really enjoyed this book. It Was fiction. I also enjoyed it because I am in the beginning. I thought that the mysterious girl was a Pixie, but it turned out that she was actually a ghost from the olden times trying to help the other girl stop the fairies

This is a fiction book. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t as good as the sun king by the same author. My favourite character by far was Alice, she was fun. I would recommend this book but I would prefer to read the sun king.

A brilliant story, rich with history and mythical elements. It follows two girls living in very different years, one is living in a cottage during the end of World War ll early awaiting the return of her brother and the other is living in the city in the present day, waiting to see if her brother's life is saved. IN DARKLING WOODS is incredibly written in both present tense and first person. Recommend to anyone aged 9-11!

In this book, there are two protagonists. The first one is Alice Campbell , whose brother has heart that was attacked by a virus. In the middle of the night, the telephone rings to inform them that a heart was avalible for her brother. Alice has to stay at her strange grandmother's house. The second protagonist is Florence Waterhouse. It is unbeliveable but Florence was a girl living in the early 19th century. She lived in darkling cottage - where Alice's grandmother lives.-waiting for her elder brother to return from the war. How will the story end? Read the book to find out...

This was a fictional book with a diary about a young girl's childhood and the hard times she has to face when her brother has a heart transplant. This was suitable for my age group and would recommend this intriguing book to Year 6 students like me.

Normally fairies and ghosts don't go together but they do in this book and that makes it a lot more interesting.
