Tom's Midnight Garden
Philippa Pearce
When Tom is sent to stay at his aunt and uncle’s house for the summer, he resigns himself to endless weeks of boredom. As he lies awake in his bed he hears the grandfather clock downstairs strike . . .eleven . . . twelve . . . thirteen . . .
Thirteen! Tom races down the stairs and out the back door, into a garden everyone told him wasn’t there. In this enchanted thirteenth hour, the garden comes alive – but Tom is never sure whether the children he meets there are real or ghosts . . . This entrancing and magical story is one of the best-loved children’s books ever written.
Reviews

This book was good because I like it when Tom finds the secret garden when the Grandfather clock strikes thirteen. without anybody else knowing about it. As the story goes on, Tom sees more children. Three boys and a young girl. Their names were Hubert, James and Edgar. The girls name was Hatty. Tom and Hatty both become friends and always play with each other.

My favourite character is Hatty. My favourite part of the story is when mrs Bartholomew and Tom were chatting about skating. It wasn’t a five star as some bits were quite scary

Not very intense but there a lurking feeling that something massive is going to happen.

It was a fiction book about a naughty boy called Tom. He went to his Uncle and Aunty's place and found a secret garden there.

An interesting time-travelling adventure story. I liked Hatty the most because of her adventurousness and curiosity about Tom. I would recommend this book to people who love history.

I really liked reading this book as it was very detailed and allowed me to imagine the story in my head. I thought the story was a little boring in some parts but the idea of being friends with a Victorian ghost was very good. I liked Hattie the best, as she was like me. I would recommend this book as it is a great story.

If it was factual, it interested me because of how the garden was based on what somebody dreams about. In addition, it interested my of how some people can see him while others cannot, and how time can change (depending on what scene the person, called Mrs Barthelomew, dreams about). 100% recommend this book to someone who believes in magic.

This was a good fantasy and adventure story but at times it did make me feel sad like when Tom is sent away to live with his Aunt and uncle while his brother Peter is sick and at the end when he can’t get into the garden again to see his friend Hatty. I read the graphic adaptation of the story and the pictures were very useful in helping me understand more about the story and the special friendship that Tom has with Hatty.

This book was a nice book as it had a lot of mystery in it. I liked Hatty the best as she is so mysterious and as she grows up so quickly... Is she a ghost. I would definitely recommend this book to someone else.

I liked this book a lot because it was very interesting and made you say "What's going to happen now?" or "Noooooo!" . My favourite character was Hatty (Harriet) because at the end of the book the old lady who lives up stairs (they live in flats) was actually Harriet. That made Tom (the boy) really happy because he wanted to see her again that day and then he did. Like I said the book was great but I only rated it a 4 because some days I didn't want to read the book but when I did I loved it.

My favourite character was Hatty because she is fun and relatable to me. I guessed early on that she was Mrs Bartholomew but that didn't spoil the story for me. I think the ending could have been a bit more exciting.
