Dindy and the Elephant
Elizabeth Laird
Bored with her little brother Pog’s childish games, Dindy decides that she’s finally grown-up enough for a real adventure. While her mother is sleeping and the servants are busy, she takes Pog deep into the tea gardens, a place they are never supposed to go alone.
Terrified by wild animals and snubbed by the local children, Dindy starts to realize how little she really knows about India, even though it’s the only place she’s ever called home. But little does she know her life is about to be turned upside down when her mother is taken ill and her father tells her they are leaving India, for good.
Dindy and the Elephant by Elizabeth Laird is a wonderful portrait of a young British child coming to terms with leaving her beloved childhood home, while at the same time realizing that many of the things she has been raised to believe are wrong.
Reviews

This book wasn't bad I quite liked it it was about this girl called dindy (her real name is marget) and her brother called pog. So dindy, pog, and their parents lived in India, t I would recommend this book

I thought it was a very intelligent book. My thoughts were that it was adventurous to read. It was fiction. My favourite character was Dindy. It wasn't factual. It interested me because it had two different cultures English and Indian. I would certainly recommend this to anyone.

I love this book as it has a very intresting story line and is based on a real story. My favourite character was the doctor becuase he was kind to everyone even Dindy's mother after she shouted at him. I would definately recommened this book to someone else as it is easy to read and has a great plot that is very enticing.

It teaches you a lesson, to not go outside without permission. Also it's about a girl who didn't like her cousins, but who misses them afterwards

Set in the 1940s as India is about to shake off British rule, Dindy and the Elephant is an accessible and beautifully written story about a young English girl faced with leaving the only home she has ever known.
