Shouldn't You Be in School?
Lemony Snicket
Before he wrote ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’, before the Baudelaires became orphans, even before the invention of Netflix, Lemony Snicket asked all the wrong questions. Four to be exact. This is the account of the third question.
Young apprentice Lemony Snicket is investigating a case of arson but soon finds himself enveloped in the ever-increasing mystery that haunts the town of Stain’d-by-the-Sea.
Who is setting the fires? What secrets are hidden in the Department of Education? Why are so many schoolchildren in danger? Is it all the work of the notorious villain Hangfire? How could you even ask that? What kind of education have you had?
In the tradition of great storytellers, from Dickens to Dahl, comes an exquisitely dark comedy that is both literary and irreverent. You’ll laugh only if you find humour in gothic and mysterious things involving detectives and crime solving.
Lemony’s other literary outings in `A Series of Unfortunate Events’ have sold 60 million copies worldwide and been made into a Hollywood film starring Jim Carrey and a Netflix series starring Neil Patrick Harris. These regrettable developments mean that millions of fans have found out about the dreadful plight of the Baudelaire orphans, but you do not have to. You have been warned.
Have you read all four mysterious titles in the Wrong Questions series?
`Who Could That Be at the This Hour?’`When Did You Last See Her?’
`Shouldn’t You Be in School?’
`Why is This Night Different from All Other Nights?’
Author Lemony Snicket was born before you were and is likely to die before you as well. He was born in a small town where the inhabitants were suspicious and prone to riot. He grew up near the sea and currently lives beneath it. Until recently, he was living somewhere else. He is a broken man, wracked with misery and despair as a result of writing ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’. He spends his days wandering the countryside weeping and moaning and his evenings eating hastily-prepared meals.
Artist Seth has portrayed suspicious circumstances and shady characters in much of his work. He is a multi-award-winning cartoonist, author and artist, whose works include Palookaville and Clyde Fans.
Praise for Who Could That Be at This Hour?:
`Charming, clever and enormously enjoyable’ Guardian `Wonderfully eccentric and addictive … Just beautiful writing’ Observer `Better than ever’ Independent `A dazzlingly clever, funny and literary concoction’ Irish TimesReviews

This is a great book full of mystery and suspense. It cleverly leaves you on a cliff hanger at the end so that you will want to read more books from the series. The charachters are quite relatable as the book is from the main charachter's perspective so you are able to see his thoughts. There are some moments of pity for the charachters as well as funny moments. I would recommend this book to others because there is mystery lerking around every corner.

This is absolutely amazing with a good twist. Amazing humour. So sarcastic I really loved it. I think that I would like to join "the special programme " as well.

I didn't enjoy the book because I haven't read the books earlier in the series. I recommend it for people about the age of 10 who have read the earlier books in the series.

Hangfire the baddie is at large again burning down Standin by the sea’s only school and sending them to Wade Academy which is full of laudanum which sends you to sleep. His sister and his friend Ellington Feint get sent to prison as does the librarian. The librarian adds a sprinkler system in the library which distroys all the fake books from Wade Academy. All the books from Wade academy go inside a cart with a tarpaulin on top. Lemony Snicket takes Wllington Feint on a hay ride!

I found it quite hard to understand the language in this book. I gave it a mid score because the story was good but as I said before the language was difficult for me.

This book is the third in the All The Wrong Questions series. The series is about a young boy called Lemony Snicket who looks into a variety of mysteries. In 'Shouldn't You Be In School?' Lemony investigates multiple displays of arson (which is an act of purposefully setting fire to buildings). His chaperone (a woman named S. Theodora Markson) behaves in a way Lemony has never witnessed before. Ms Markson makes friends with an enemy and the son of the police officers Mitchum commits a crime but will Lemony solve the mystery and find out who the arsonist is?

It could have been a bit more funny

The book is very intriguing as the mystery is a fragmentary plot so you dont know what happens next. The only thing that let me down is that the book doesnt have an ending.
Anonymous 16.08.2016

The book was about a character called Hangfire setting fires to buildings. The main character is a thirteen year old called Lemony Snicket who is investigating the fires. It was a interesting book.

I extremely enjoyed his book because of the amazing use of vocabulary, not only this but as soon as you think you know who did, why they did it and with who. It turns out to be someone absolutely different!
