Longlisted for the 2015 Carnegie Medal.Red asks, 'Will we always be together?' 'Always,' I say. 'Just you and me in that little boat, watching the scarlet ibis flying back to the Caroni Swamp.' Scarlet's used to looking after her brother, Red. He's special - different. Every night she tells him his favourite story - about the day they'll fly far away to the Caroni Swamp in Trinidad, where thousands of birds fill the sky. But when Scarlet and Red are split up and sent to live with different foster families, Scarlet knows she's got to do whatever it takes to get her brother back ...A wonderfully moving new novel from the author of Sky Hawk and White Dolphin.

This book was absolutely amazing! It was filled with happy and sad moments too. It was about things that happen to children in real life. It also made me remember that I'm living with a happy family, not a sad one like Scarlet's.

I really recommend this book. It is about a girl called Scarlet and her brother Red. Scarlet is a young carer and her mum isn't supportive of her. One day, their flat is set on fire and Scarlet and Red are split up. Some parts of the book made me want to cry. My favourite character is Madame Popescu, the old lady who looks after the pigeons. This book is really sad but very compelling. I recommend it to readers aged 10 and above who like stories about family.

I really enjoyed this book. But I would say its a bit more for older children. Sometimes in the story it is a bit sad but it is always happy after.
