Looking For Alaska by John Green is a beautiful book. However, I found it rather hard to become engaged in the first book. I found that the imagery made the setting out to be rather dull so it took me a bit of time to finish. It does have some beautiful quotes in it; one of which is currently the center of my quote board; "...and now she was gone and with her my faith in perhaps." I wasn't expecting the major event at all, so it came as a shock and soon invested me in the book. It deals with grief in a real way, and doesn't really dance around the subject, which I feel is a good thing. It also deals with heartbreak, without glamourizing it which is important. I don't think I would go out of my way to recommend this book, as I think there are better John Green novels out there such as The Fault In Our Stars.

It was a sad and compelling novel about the meaning of life and Miles Halters and Alaska Young’s perspective of it. I like Alaska the best with her confident spirit and her original intake on life. I would highly recommend it to any teenagers. This is a book that should be known by everyone.

It's extremely interesting, especially (SPOILER ALERT) the mystery of how and why Alaska died, and how the author wants us to think about it too. This book really makes us think about life. It will make you laugh, cry, and be inspired, all at the same time.
