‘I know Mum will be heartbroken if I don’t go with her, but I’m the only family Dad’s got. What am I to do?’

Floss’s parents are divorced, and they’ve got a simple routine – Floss spends five days a week with her mum, her new stepdad and her baby half-brother. The other two days Floss spends with her dad, helping him to run his greasy spoon cafe.

But this arrangement is thrown into disarray when Floss’s mum decides to move to Australia.

Floss makes the difficult decision to stay at home, moving in permanently with her dad. They muddle along happily together, surviving on chip butties and enjoying visits to the local funfair.

Then disaster strikes – Dad’s money troubles catch up with him and they have to move out of the cafe. They’re homeless – but can their new fairground friends help out?

I enjoyed reading Candyfloss because it was very tense and thrilling. I often felt like what the character, Floss (the book is in first person), was feeling. The book is about how her parents have split up. Her mum has a new husband that Floss hates, but her dad is still running his chip shop. However, the business isn't going well. On her birthday, Floss discovers that her stepdad has got a six-month opportunity to go to Australia and she's wondering whether she should stay with her loveable dad, or go to Australia? I thought it was a bit long and dragged on sometimes. That is why I would rate it 4 stars. My favourite character is Susan, Floss's quiet, clever friend because she is very kind and likeable. I would recommend this book to people who like drama, dilemmas, funfairs and friendship. If that sounds like you, head to the library!
