Running Wild
Michael Morpurgo
An epic and heart-rending jungle adventure from the bestselling author of Kaspar and Born to Run. For Will and his mother, going to Indonesia isn't just a holiday. It's an escape, a new start, a chance to put things behind them - things like the death of Will's father. And to begin with, it seems to be just what they both needed. But then Oona, the elephant Will is riding on the beach, begins acting strangely, shying away from the sea. And that's when the tsunami comes crashing in, and Oona begins to run. Except that when the tsunami is gone, Oona just keeps on running. With nothing on his back but a shirt and nothing to sustain him but a bottle of water, Will must learn to survive deep in the jungle. Luckily, though, he's not completely alone… He's got Oona.
Reviews

I thought the books was amazing but it was quite sad.It was full of adventure with a young boy named Will who had a friend who was an elephant her name was Oona. The story is set in Thailand when a tsunami killed Wills mum but the elephant saved wills life.Oona is my favourite character because she is smart, gentle and looks after Will.Yes, I would recommend this book to somebody else because once you start reading you can’t take your head out of the book.

Although this tale is somewhat upsetting, the adventure element is fantastic. In addition to this, the book is based on a true story which makes it even better. There is also some addition facts enclosed that are very informative.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend it to people who love animals and want to know why we need to help them and the rainforest. It is a fictional story however, it is based on the real things that are happening in the world. I like the way the author tells the story as the boy in the book. The story includes both sad and emotional parts aswell as happy, funny parts.
