A gripping children’s story from War Horse author and former Children's Laureate Michael Morpurgo. “We all knew what was going to happen. We’d seen it before. A ship about to founder staggers before she falls. A huge wave broke over her stern and she did not come upright again.… Life on the Scilly Isles in 1907 is bleak and full of hardship. Laura’s twin brother, Billy, disappears, and then a storm devastates everything. It seems there’s little hope. But then the Zanzibar is wrecked on the island’s rocks, and everything changes … The Wreck of the Zanzibar is a gripping historical adventure from the author of An Eagle in the Snow, Listen to the Moon, Shadow, and An Elephant in the Garden. Michael Morpurgo is the master storyteller of such modern classic children's books as War Horse, Friend or Foe, Private Peaceful, and Kensuke's Kingdom. He has written more than one hundred books for children and won the Whitbread Award, the Smarties Award, the Circle of Gold Award, the Children’s Book Award and has been short-listed for the Carnegie Medal four times.

My opinion of this book is really positive. I loved that Michael Morpurgo did the story as a diary! This book is one of my favourite fiction stories and you could tell that because I finished it in one whole morning. The character that I like the most would have to be Granny May because she seems to stay calm even through the part where things aren't great. I would recommend this book for children who are in the range of Y5 to Y7.

It was a good quick read, based on the Scilly Isles, off the coast of cornwall, they lived on an Island with not many other people, so not much went on, but it was still a plesent read.

I think it is very cool the way it was written in a dairy/journal format. Which most of Michale Morpurgo books are written. I think it shows how passionate she is about her family being in a good state. I would recommend i to somone else cause it really gives you a glimpse into someones life and its not just all fiction.

The wreck of the Zanzibar is a fiction book about: a girl called Laura, her family and neighbours on the Isles of Scilly in 1907 and the hard life on the island. Although they were saving people and things are getting better in the end, it is sad that they had to live on other people's misfortune (ships going wrecked). It is good to understand how hard the life use to be and still is for some people, this is why I hope other children will read this book.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved how it was a diary the whole time except from when the boy found the diary and finished reading the diary. I loved how the people listened to the ancestor and put the turtle on display in the town. I would recommend this book to children aged 9-15 because it is exciting but a bit scary at times.

it was very interesting and the way her brother came back after so many long years. It is also very emotional most of the time so it keeps you reading. And it was really enjoyable.

I thought this book was well-written and serious, although I didn't think the zanzibar was mentioned early enough.

This was a story about a girl called Laura (& her brother Billy), they lived on an island but were running out of food, after a storm a ship was wrecked near the island, then they had food and timber, and cows! then they lived happily ever after. This book was good because it was adventurous, Laura saved a turtle which was good.
