Summer Reading Challenge: Exciting New Digital Developments for Read to the Beat
Bringing Even More Magic to the Summer Reading Challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge has always been about inspiring children to discover the joy of reading through libraries and for 2026, we are excited to introduce a brand-new digital experience that will enhance and extend the magic of the in-person challenge.
These new developments are designed to work hand-in-hand with the library experience, creating additional moments of excitement for children and families while reinforcing the important role libraries play at the heart of the Summer Reading Challenge.
The physical Challenge remains at the centre of the experience – library visits, conversations with staff and volunteers, collecting stickers and celebrating reading progress are as important as ever. The new digital innovations are designed as a brilliant add-on that helps keep motivation high between visits and creates even more reasons for children to continue reading and returning to their library.
A New Digital Rewards Space for 2026
One of the most exciting developments launching for the 2026 Summer Reading Challenge is a brand-new digital rewards space, designed to celebrate children’s progress and make every stage of the Challenge feel even more rewarding.
When children receive their physical stickers at the library, families will be able to scan a QR code included with each sticker to unlock exclusive digital rewards online.
This creates a seamless link between the in-library experience and digital discovery with every library visit unlocking new surprises.
Every Sticker Unlocks Three Exciting Rewards
Each sticker scanned will unlock three unique digital experiences, packaged visually as a pack of 3 collector cards, helping keep children engaged and motivated throughout the summer.
1. A Special Cheerleading Video
Every unlock will include an exclusive celebration video message from a well-known author or TV presenter.
These short videos will congratulate children on their progress, celebrate their achievements and encourage them to keep reading and continue their Summer Reading Challenge journey.
Messages may include:
- “Congratulations on getting this far!”
- “You’re doing brilliantly — keep going!”
- “I can’t wait to hear what you read next!”
These personalised moments of encouragement are designed to help children feel celebrated and inspired as they progress through the Challenge.
2. Collect the Read to the Beat Animated Band
Children will also unlock a band member featuring a character of the Read to the Beat illustrations.
With each sticker scanned, a new band member is revealed.
As children continue through the Challenge and collect all six stickers, they will gradually build the full band and once all six are unlocked, families will reveal a special reward: the complete band performing together in an exclusive musical moment!
This collectible experience adds a fun, gamified element to the Challenge while celebrating the creativity and music theme at the heart of Read to the Beat.
3. A Bonus Reward or Activity
Each sticker will also unlock an additional digital reward, giving children and families something new to explore throughout the summer.
Rewards may include:
- Free digital magazines
- A free e-book from the book collection
- Music-themed games
- Downloadable activity sheets
- Exclusive author and illustrator workshop videos
- Creative reading-inspired content
These rewards are designed to extend engagement beyond the library visit while keeping reading, creativity and fun at the centre.
