Update from Essex Libraries with the help of Alban the Giraffe
Essex Libraries

I thought things were going to be pretty exciting when the Zoo Keeper told me I’d be staying in Colchester library for the summer. I’m here to celebrate the 50th birthday of the local zoo.
The best thing about visiting Colchester library is that I’ve met so many children joining Creepy House and I’ve been listening to what they’ve been saying about their books. One boy had even loved reading my favourite book which is called Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae. Have any of you read it?
I’ve read two books this week. The first was a short novel by Simon Cheshire called The Fangs of the Dragon, a creepy detective story which I rated with 2 stars. The other was a picture book by Kes Gray and Mary McQuillan called Pepe Takes a Tumble which is about an animal hospital. Giselle the Giraffe has a bandage right up her neck and Beyonce the Bear has injured her ear. I gave that one 3 stars.
I must go as there are more children to talk to about their creepy, adventurous and exciting books. It’s lucky there are lots more to choose in the library! In the meantime Julie is going to be answering your questions today I hope you have lots of interesting questions to ask and we’d love to know about your favourite animal story. Happy reading!

Hi Captain Rip Vampire,
Did you know there are over 14 different Cowboy Kid books? Have you read them all?
You might also like to try Buffalo Bert by Michaela Morgan. My favourite wild west story is Pa Jinglebob and the Grabble Gang by Mary Arrigan.
i hate cats.when i go somewhere a cat starts chasing me. in my road there are like 9 or 10 cats. But i love horse.
Hi Lord Grip Quagmire,
Sorry you don’t like cats. Anne Fine has written a series about cats, the first being ‘Diary of a Killer Cat’ – maybe these might change your mind.
My favourite authors for horse stories are Lauren Brooke, Jenny Oldfield, Michael Morpurgo and Sharon Siamon. I also like the ‘Sandy Lane Stables’ series.
Hello I read a lot and I love dogs and want to be a vet when im older
Hi Madam Sunny Gooseberry,
I like dogs too, and some of my favourite dog books are written by Lucy Daniels, Linda Newberry, and Dick King-Smith. My favourite at the moment is Spy Dog by Andrew Cope, it’s very funny.
Why don’t you also check out the non-fiction in your library – you’re find lots of books about dogs and maybe also a book about the day in the life of a vet.
