Hello Duchess Kangaroo Remmington,

Have you tried any stories by Eva Ibbotson? I lespecially loved Star of Kazan but also Journey to River Sea and The Dragonfly pool. Interesting adventures with an excellent girl character. Also, Princess Academy by Shannon Hale. See what you think. If you want something a bit shorter have you read anything by Julia Golding. The series about Cat Royal are brilliant and exciting, starting with The Diamond of Drury Lane.

Hello Countess Baba Armadillo. Have you ever seen the Claude Books by Alex T Smith? They are great fun about a funny little dog who goes on unexpected adventures. They are good because they have pictures on every page to help you understand what is happening in the story if you are unsure of the words. I would also try You, Me and Thing by Karen McCombie. There are a whole series, I’d try The Curse of the Jelly Babies.

Have you read the Laura Marlin mysteries by Lauren St John. She also writes animal stories like The One Dollar Horse. One of the Laura Marlin books is called The Kentucky Thriller and is based on horse racing.

The Dirtie Bertie series of boks are very good, they are by Alan Macdonald. You can’t beat Mr Gum, by Andy Stanton, for making mischief and there are plenty of laughs with Jeremy Strong.

Hi there countess,

Have you read the Skulduggery Pleasant series by Derek Landy? Other good authors I like are Jenny Nimmo and Diana Wynne Jones. I love her title Howl’s Moving Castle.

Hi Mo,
Having a closer look at this site with my 6 yr old daughter who has read 4 books so far, and there you are – a familiar face! Glad to see you are still a happy librarian in Cardiff. Perhaps you know whether it is possible to retrieve story ending that kids have submitted and re-read them. I’ve been trying to do this on the website but no luck. Anyway, a big hello to you! Vicky Marsh (from Dillons many years ago now).

I am reading at the moment kidnap in the Caribbean by Lauren St. John and the opening makes me wonder what will happen next. I love reading Michael Morpurgo books and Shadow is my favourite. The hobbit is also a excellent classic!

All good suggestions. I like detective stories. There is a new one called Wild Boy by Rob Lloyd Jones which is excellent.

Thank you for your cat book suggestion! I am rubbish at origami, but from that idea I might be able to do it! It may be copying, but I think I’m going to make little shadow puppets by myself. Sorry I am writing to you again. Do you have a favourite author? I like Kate Saunders, Susan Scott and Eva Ibbotson. It’s funny, in my library one of the volunteers didn’t get sent the models to hide around the library so she drew them herself! Sorry for the long message. I hope you had fun in Cardiff, do you know any other good Eva Ibbotson books apart from Journey to the River Sea, The Abominables, Which Witch? and The Secret of Platform 13? I also like the Lemony Snicket and J.K Rowling books.
