Meet the Librarian

Meet the Librarian

My name is Catherine and I have been working for Shropshire Libraries for 20 years – first as a library assistant and now as a Team Librarian.

How long have you been involved in the Summer Reading Challenge?

My first day of working in a library was as the Reading Planet challenge was ending and I though what fun it was and wished I could have taken part and received a medal for reading books!

What do you think of this year’s theme?

I love this year’s theme and celebrating the science in everyday life.

Who is your favourite character?

My favourite character is Ajay as he likes gardening and I have been working on improving my plant growing skills.

What are your favourite STEM books?

I love The Questioneers series of books by Andrea Beaty and any books about space.

What are you doing this year for the Challenge that you’re most excited about?

We are giving out our medals on lanyards this year to showcase the fab sustainable medals. Shropshire Libraries is widening the reach of the Summer Reading Challenge into the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme – reaching many children who would not normally be taking part, encouraging them with their reading, to receive the stickers, medal and certificate.

Do you have any tips or recommendations for children taking part in the Challenge for the first time?

Don’t forget to discover what’s going on in your library over the summer as there are lots of events and activities!

Visit our Library Zone to find libraries near you running the Challenge!

Joining your library service is free and they make it easy for you to get a card so you can start borrowing books straight away.
