Greetings from Susie in Cullompton!

Greetings from Susie in Cullompton.

Here in Devon, we are having a monstrously marvellous time giving out stinky stickers as our challengers read their books. We just don’t stop! We are giving out stickers and prizes so often we have almost turned into robots!

It’s fabulous hearing about what everyone’s reading here in Devon, and it’s brilliant to see the books you’re all getting stuck into too, so keep your comments and questions coming!

Something magical has really got into our books here, because they are FLYING off they shelves. (Ok, not actually.) I’ll see you again later to tell you about the book I’m reading right now and what’s going on in Cullompton.

i love the diary of the wimpy kid books.

Hello Senorita Lacey Slingshot! I love them too. Have you read all of them? Have you watched any of the movies? Thanks for sharing with us.

are there any other authors that write in the same style as Jacqueline Wilson as I like her style.

Principal Magnolia Tyrannosaurus, that;s a good question. All authors are unique and none of them sound exactly the same as another one, but if you would like something similar to Jacqueline Wilson, I would recommend Claire O’Brien, Lauren Child’s series about Clarice Bean, Hilary McKay, Cathy Cassidy and perhaps Karen McCombie. That’s a whole lot to be getting on with. I’d start with Cordela Codd, Not Just the Blues, by Claire O’Brien. It made me laugh and cry.

Oh and also, I have a cousin who lives in Australia, she loves Roald Dahl especially ‘Matilda’. Can you recommend any other books like ‘Matilda’ but not by Roald Dahl that my cousin might like??? I’m hoping to surprise her in my next email by telling her some good books to read !!!

Greetings, Senorita Blossome Elephant! It’s great you are helping out your relatives with their book choices. Well, Matilda is quite unique but perhaps you could suggest Pippi Longstocking? There’s a beautiful edition illustrated by Lauren Child who created Charlie and Lola. Also, Dick King-Smith has written some excellent adventures with wonderful characters, such as The Queen’s Nose and Harry’s Mad. I’d also recommend The Girl Savage by Katherine Rundell.

You replied to my question on the other chat and I would just like to say thank you as it was really good advice :) I also really love Kelly Mckain, I enjoy all her books but best of all are the Rainbow Beauty series. Could you suggest any books like them ??? Thank you xx

Hello again Senorita Blossom Elephant! It’s always lovely to share about the books we enjoy, isn’t it. Lovely to hear from you. I would recommend the Cupcake Diaries by Coco Simon. The first one is called Katie and the Cupcake Cure so see if your lovely local library can find that one for you. Also, there’s a nice series of books by Madonna called the English Roses which you could try. Let us know what you think.

Hi Professor Phoenix Fink, it’s great to hear that you’re enjoying The Brilliant World of Tom Gates. The really good news is that there are several more in the series with new titles coming! Have you also enjoyed Diary of a Wimpy Kid?
