Hello from Francesca

We’re SO excited about the Summer Reading Challenge here in Inverclyde and we’re almost ready to get started with the creepiness that’s taking over our libraries!

Me and some other library supersleuths went on a fact-finding mission to Waterstone’s in Glasgow last week where we scoped out the latest in spooky books for 0-12 year olds. We did a mega supermarket sweep and will be getting those brand new books onto our library shelves faster than a bat’s breakfast i.e. pretty fast!

Me, I’ve been busy reading some library books about creepy crawly minibeasts and the brilliant weather we had in Scotland this weekend meant I could get straight to the park to look for some of the spooky spiders and bulging bugs I’ve been reading about. It gave me LOTS of ideas for the great creepy crafternoons we’re having in our libraries all through the summer hols. I bet your local library has some great Creepy House events, too, so pop in to check out what’s happening.

I’m just back this minute from St Mary’s Primary in Greenock where I was talking to the pupils about the Creepy House challenge and how to take part. Those kids had some great questions and the teachers weren’t nearly as frightening as I’d been expecting! Thanks to the P6/5s who asked about how to find this very website. We’ve been visiting as many schools as we can and the pupils are all raring to go and had some great reading tips for me.

Right, better get back to the Very Important Serious Library Stuff but me and my friend Eilidh will be around all week to answer questions. Keep ’em coming!

do not worry I will go to the library and get a creepy house book from my library here I gooooooooooooo whooo hoooooooooooooooooooooo

Sounds like a good plan, Lady Fifi! I’m sure they’ll be delighted to help you out, if you’re not too scary!

Hi Director Bunny, that’s a great question! I’ve met a lot of boys and girls who’ve been wondering about this.

To take part in the Summer Reading Challenge, you have to read six books that you’ve borrowed from the library. The bad news is that you can’t use your own books but the good news is that your library will have LOADS of great books that you’ll love reading. Tell the librarian the type of books you like and they’ll be able to give you some suggestions for what to read next.

Hope this helps!
